Kids Gi
Up to 15- Tue17:00
- Thu17:00
For parents
Classes grouped by age so a four-year-old and a thirteen-year-old never share a mat, a kids’ belt system that rewards effort, and coaches who know every child by name.
Age groups
Straight from the live timetable, so what you see here is what runs this week.
The kids’ belt system
Children under 16 grade on their own belt ladder: each colour comes in a white-stripe, solid and black-stripe step, and stripes on the belt mark progress in between. Every stripe and belt is recorded in the app the day it is awarded.
At 16, children move onto the adult belts, starting at blue or white depending on their kids’ grade.
Children’s photos, only with your say-so
No child is pictured on this website or the gym TVs without a parent’s photo consent; the only children here are in whole-team photos the academy has permission for. In the app every child creates their own avatar (hair, gi colour, cauliflower ears if they insist) and it wears their real belt and stripes. That is what appears on the gym TVs and in the app, unless you choose otherwise.
A gi if they have one (we have loaners for the first few weeks), a water bottle, flip-flops for off the mat, and short, clean nails.
Arrive ten minutes early so a coach can say hello and show you where to sit. Parents are welcome to watch. Mini Vikings (ages 4 to 8) pay per class at the desk; older children join on the monthly Kids membership.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is not a poster on the wall here. It is built into how the academy and the app work.
Every coach who takes a kids’ class holds an enhanced DBS check and first-aid training, and the academy tracks renewal dates so nothing lapses.
Our welfare officer is Sonny Weston (01403 864444). Speak to them in confidence about any concern, however small.
You decide whether your child’s photo can be used inside the academy, on the TVs or online, per child, and every change is logged with the date and who made it.
Every bump and every concern is written up the same day in a record that cannot be edited or deleted. Authorised collectors are named per child, so we know who is picking them up.
If you have a concern about a child’s welfare, speak in confidence to our Welfare Officer, Sonny Weston, or our Deputy Welfare Officer, Jayden Thompson. In an emergency call 999. You can also contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
Parents and the app
You never need a separate account per child. Sign up once, add each child who trains, and everything about them lives under your login.
Download the app, create your login and add your children. Membership and photo consent are managed in the same place.
This week
Tell us your child’s age and we will suggest the right group. No kit needed for the first session, and while they train you can use the gym on the parents’ add-on.
